It's Kwanzaa Time!
Kwanzaa was created in 1966 by Maulana Karenga and the Us organization in Los Angeles during the civil rights and black power movements that began in the 1950s and continued through the 1970s. Kwanzaa is a prime example of African-Americans’ desire to discover their African heritage and reconnect with the continent of their ancestors. In cities across the U.S., people of all walks embrace Kwanzaa and promote the holiday in their homes, schools, and community centers. Kwanzaa’s focus is the “Nguzo Saba”, the Seven Principles — unity, self-determination, collective work and responsibility, cooperative economics, purpose and creativity and faith.
